School Based Services
Therapists and trainees from the Child Therapy Institute work in schools, after-school programs and Head Start programs throughout the Bay Area. Teachers identify children who might benefit from groups addressing issues related to socialization, behavioral management, and sensory integration. The therapist blends expressive arts, movement, and structured activities to expand the child’s repertoire of skills necessary for school success.
A therapist/trainee from The Child Therapy Institute may join trainees from other agencies and training sites to provide individual sandtray sessions to children in grades K – 6 at a variety of schools in the Bay Area. Teachers identify students who might benefit from the chance to meet individually for the sole purpose of self-expression and structured play. Children who participate in sandtray sessions often exhibit a decrease in problematic behaviors and emotional outbursts at school and even at home.
