The Child Therapy Institute (CTI), also known as The Child Therapy Institute of Marin (CTIM), was founded in 1992 by Tessamarie Capitolo, MFT, ISST, and David Capitolo, MFT, with a vision of providing affordable, ongoing psychotherapy for children and families from diverse backgrounds. Their mission continues today, providing access to the care and support they need to navigate life’s challenges and grow into their fullest potential.

Children are at the center of our work. Every child’s world is rich with emotion, imagination, and experiences that shape their development. We provide a safe, supportive setting, where children are given the space to express themselves, process difficult emotions, and build the skills they need to move forward with confidence. Through play therapy, expressive arts, and sandplay, children explore their world in a way that feels natural to them. When needed, we also incorporate structured cognitive and behavioral approaches to help children develop emotional regulation, problem-solving skills, and a greater sense of inner balance.

Our work is deeply individualized, honoring each child’s unique needs, experiences, and capacities. As distress and suffering ease, new possibilities emerge—children often leave therapy with a stronger sense of self, greater resilience, and a renewed ability to connect with the world around them.
