The Child Therapy Institute offers comprehensive training for MFT or LCSW trainees and interns as well as licensed clinicians. The training program focuses on the following topics related to individual child therapy: play therapy, sandplay therapy, working with parents and outside agencies, and integrating expressive arts therapy into the treatment. The training also focuses on translating session material into Medi-Cal friendly language and integrating CBT and dyadic therapy as needed.
We are also currently seeking MFT, LCSW or Psychology trainees and interns to begin seeing clients in September, 2024. The clients are mostly ages 4 – 12. Selected applications can be considered throughout the year.
We anticipate openings for clinical interns as follows:
• Antioch: Two openings
• San Pablo/El Cerrito: Two openings
• School program – Berkeley USD: One or two openings
• Marin/North Bay: Two openings
(All openings are pending funding.)
Training and supervision take place in our Antioch office on Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. or in our San Pablo office on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Every other Friday, September through June, there is a three-hour training session in San Pablo from 9:00 a.m. to noon.
The internship is a two-year commitment from September, 2024 to August, 2026. The basic internship is 15 hours per week.
We seek a person who is:
• Currently in possession of an intern number or have an agreement with a graduate school
• Bi-lingual
• A self-starter who is flexible
• Able to work 15 hours per week (six hours with clients, six hours of supervision and training, and three hours of administration).
• Trainees are paid at the rate of $15 per/hour .
• Interns are paid at the rate of $25/hour.
