Our Spring 2012 Events offer Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) for psychologists which are provided by this years program co-sponsor, The Spiritual Competency Resource Center.  SCRC is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The Use of  Games in Child Psychotherapy

In this experiential and didactic workshop, participants will dive into the world of the game as therapeutic vehicle with children. Going beyond using games to build rapport, Dr. Lukas will show how a simple board game, floor game, or building game can become a tool through which to explore the therapeutic relationship. Moreover, Dr. Lukas will demonstrate how games can facilitate a child’s greater integration of affective states and behavioral choices.

Brian Lukas, PHD, is a licensed psychologist in private practice who has been providing psychotherapy to children, adolescents and adults for 35 years. In 1997, Dr Lukas became the executive director of the Child Therapy Institute after having served as the clinical director. Previously, Dr. Lukas has worked as worked in a variety of community mental health settings including child guidance clinics, hospitals, schools and for ten years he served as the mental health specialist for Contra Costa County Head Start. Dr. Lukas has received advanced training in Sandplay and is a graduate of the Supervision Study program of the Psychotherapy Institute of Berkeley. Dr. Lukas currently teaches child therapy at the California Institute of Integral Studies. He has taught child therapy and related topics at West Coast Children’s Centery, the Community Institute of Psychotherapy, the Family Service Agency of Marin and the Apple Family Center. Dr. Lukas has had a life long interest in games and the role they play in the lives of children and adolescents.
