<p><span class='et-dropcap' style="font-size: 60px; color: #5b99c9;">C</span>hildren are profoundly impacted by parent’s and caregiver’s addictions. Children developing in an addictive system need a place to recover. In this workshop we will come to understand the nature of addiction. Participants will engage in experiential arts processes for the purpose of coming to know how addiction functions. We will explore how addiction affects the child’s psyche, behaviors and relationships to self and other. Sandplay will be a focus of how children can heal from an addictive family system. Case material will be presented. Participants are asked to bring case material, especially Sandplay cases, to be explored in the group.</p>

<p>Linda Hammond LMFT RDT REAT has private practice in San Franciso and Berkeley. She works with children adolescents and couples. Using Expressive Arts including Sandplay, drama visual arts and movement Linda guides clients through issues of trauma, depression, chemical dependency and process addictions, specifically sex addictions and eating disorders. Linda has been on the faculty of CIIS in the EXA program since 2000 as core and adjunct faculty. She teaches courses on addiction, child therapy and trauma.</p>

Gary uses sand play, art , and play therapies as well as mindfulness in his work with children. In addition, he teaches mindfulness in elementary school classrooms. Gary also works with parents to improve their parenting skills as an accredited provider of the Positive Parenting Program (triple P). In his individual work with adults who are interested in spiritually-informed or contemplative therapy, Gary draws on over 35 years of mindfulness practice. In this work, he utilizes mindful inquiry, sand play, and the expressive arts as transformative therapeutic modalities.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Bethann is a marriage and family therapist intern, with a specialization in expressive arts therapy. This is her first year at The Child Therapy Institute, where she looks forward to continuing her work with children, families, and individual adults. Integrating expressive arts, sandplay and play therapies with body-based mindfulness practices, she guides her clients in discovering and building on their unique, natural strengths so they can better use them in meeting the challenges of life. Bethann is particularly interested in helping people work with identity and adjustment issues, especially involving difference of any kind. These include learning style, gender, ability, or other differences, lifestyle preferences and various family constellations, including those involving LGBT parents, multiple parents, and uniquely blended family groups. She has been an elementary school counselor, a youth empowerment facilitator, a bedside counselor for medically hospitalized patients, and a peer counselor at an alternative residential education program.</p>
